In April 2014, Troy DeArmitt had no idea what to expect of WUSTL Speaks or what it would mean to serve in a leadership position in the club.
But Troy was elected Vice President Public Relations at the club’s organizational meeting. He hit the ground running and created the WUSTL Speaks’ website. With his prior experience in Web design, Troy was able to create an appealing site that set the club apart.
Troy has also been a pioneer in making the club more known across campus. He has helped host several open houses and brought a record number of guests.
Anyone who knows Troy knows he’s a a creative leader. He came up with, and organized, the inaugural Talk Soon Staff Day Speech Showcase.
Planning events like these with the other officers of WUSTL Speaks helped Troy feel more connected to the club. While he has only been VP Public Relations for a little more than a year, he’s found that the position challenges his creativity, allows him to work on a team to make critical decisions, and gives him the freedom to explore nontraditional methods to publicize the great work done in WUSTL Speaks!
This is part of the We Want You! Series, which profiled each of our charter club officers before they handed over the reins to the new team on July 1.
